What are you into recently?

Me?

I’m into organic toothpaste and mouthwash and have been searching all over iHerb for interesting stuff.

This is what arrived today:

jason toothpaste mouthwash himalaya toothpaste

  1. Himalaya Botanique – Toothpaste Neem Pomegranate
  2. Jason – Healthy Mouth Antiplaque & Tartar Control
  3. Jason – Power Smile (Mouth wash)

As usual, everything arrived within a week after I ordered.
I was just running out of toothpaste so very nice timing!

Benefits of organic dental care

Probably the biggest benefit is that it doesn’t include chemicals that are supposed to be bad for you like:

  • SLS (risk of taste disorder)
  • Fluoride (risk of chronic side effects)
  • Saccharin (risk of cancer)

Of course when we’re talking about toothpaste, the amount of chemicals included in it is minimal.
Also its not like we swallow the toothpaste.

But, if there are other options, and there are, the way I think about it is that it doesn’t make sense to deliberately choose products that use harmful chemicals.
That’s how I began using organic dental care products.

I used to love Listerine and sweet tasting toothpaste so I was worried that the organic products would lack the soothing effect that the products rich with chemicals gave.

So far, I’m surviving.

Himalaya Botanique – Toothpaste Neem Pomegranate

I bought this because it had very good reviews on iHerb.

I get the impression that it uses a lot of organic materials.

The Hydrated Silica which is an abrasive, concerns me a little.

I’m going to give it a try.himalata-toothpaste
Yummy!
It has a minty taste and is pretty good.
Not like the usual organic taste that you’d expect from natural products.

It’s very soothing.
Obvious effects of menthol.

My first impression of this product isn’t bad.

Just wish it didn’t include Hydrated Silica.

Jason – Healthy Mouth Antiplaque & Tartar Control Tea Tree Oil & Cinnamon

This toothpaste also had good reviews on iHerb.

I already had experience with this product so I got it as an insurance, just in case the Himalaya didn’t live up to the hype.

It has similar characteristics as the Himalaya:

  • Gluten Free
  • Fluoride Free
  • Saccharin Free
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) Free

The ingredients are:

  • Calcium Carbonate,
  • Water,
  • Vegetable Glycerin,
  • Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate,
  • Carrageenan,
  • Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Gel (Organic),
  • Bambusa Arundinacea (Bamboo) Stem Powder,
  • Perilla Ocymoides Seed Extract,
  • Carum Petroselinum (Parsley) Extract,
  • Melaleuca Altemifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil (Organic),
  • Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Oil,
  • Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Bark Oil,
  • Melia Azadirachta (Neem) Seed Oil, Menthol,
  • Sodium Bicarbonate,
  • Silica,
  • Stevioside, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract

This also includes Silica.

This toothpaste has a clay like texture so it has a more “organic’ like feel to it compared to the Himalaya.

It also has a soothing after taste but less than the Himalaya.

Jason Power Smile Peppermint

Organic mouth wash.

The characteristics are:

  • Paraben Free
  • SLS Free
  • Petrolatum Free
  • Artificial Colors Free
  • Phthalates Free

The ingredients are:

  • Aqua (Purified Water),
  • Vegetable Glycerin,
  • Polysorbate 20,
  • Citrus Grandis Seed Extract (Grapefruit),
  • Dead Sea Salt,
  • Ester-C Calcium Ascorbate (Vit. C),
  • Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C),
  • Hamamelis Virginiana Water (Witch Hazel),
  • Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Gel (Aloe Vera),
  • Sodium Bicarbonate,
  • Perilla Frutescens Japonica Seed Extract (Perilla),
  • Natural Menthol,
  • Mentha Piperita Leaf Oil (Peppermint),
  • Hydrastis Canadensis Extract (Golden Seal),
  • Echinacea Angustifolia Extract (Echinacea),
  • Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract (Marigold),
  • Carica Papaya Fruit Extract (Papaya)

Polysorbate 20 is said to be a harmful chemical so that’s a concern.

I’ve tried the Jason Healthy Mouth which had a unique taste (not saying it was bad) but the Power Smile is just regular mint.

The Jason Healthy Mouth is more soothing.

The Jason Healthy Mouth would occasionally make my teeth sting but the Power Smile doesn’t.
For this reason, I like the Power smile more.
